Preparation

Download the installation image for VMware ESXi/vSphere (.ova) from the official homeassistant page - https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/alternative.

Log in to your NAS and open the App Center. Check if the Virtualization Station is installed. If not, this is a good time to install it.

There’s one last thing to do before installation. We need to create a folder for our virtual machine. Open File Station and select a folder for your virtual machines to keep everything logical and clean. Create a new folder for Home Assistant virtual machine. I called mine „Home Assistant Bravo“.

Installation

Now we create a new virtual machine with the help of the downloaded image of Home Assistant into the Virtualization station. Open the Virtualization station on your NAS, select Overview (1), and click on Import button (2) to open options. Select option Import VM (3).

In this window, we are asked to select from what device we want to import a virtual machine. Choose PC then select the downloaded file from the preparation chapter.

Click Next and on the next page put the name of your Home Assistant virtual machine, and select the folder that we created in the preparation chapter. We can leave default values for other settings.

Click Import and wait until is your new VM uploaded and installed.

After installation, you can see your new HomeAssistant VM on your overview page. Now start your VM by clicking the start button (1) and open the CLI of your HomeAssistant (2).

Wait until is your HomeAssistant completely running, so you can see url address.

Copy this address into our web browser and the page should look like the image below. We are done.
